When I was a little boy, I was fascinated with sunglasses. I put these things on my face, and they took me to a different world. This can’t be the same place, I thought.  It was if there was another NOW, just laying below the surface.  I’m convinced that there is, and don’t need sunglasses anymore. Sometimes a cool drink or piece of music reminds me.



Johnny Creek Ranch is located about 4 hours from Portland, Oregon. On this afternoon in August, temperatures topped 105 degrees. WInds had been light most of the day, but by afternoon a westerly breeze came up. To the west, smoke from a brush fire rose up, and the landscape glowed.
