It’s all about sincerity

Sincerity is so hard to fake (I spent about 10 years doing it professionally), so I’m always surprised when people try. It doesn’t matter if you smile while you say it…

…the truth always shines through.

For some reason I feel that sincerity is in short supply these days.  Am I just being cynical?  I sure hope not.

So the other day Megan and I are on our way somewhere to do something, and this interview with Johnny Cash comes on NPR.  You can listen to it here.  His last words at the end of the interview (last few seconds) are particularly poignant.  I’ve always had respect for his music, but wasn’t really big Johnny Cash fan.  I saw the latest box-set release as Rick Rubin’s attempt to cash in on a dead man’s legacy.  That’s all changed now.

Johnny Cash embodies sincerity.  The best artists always do.
